Basic Axial Lies

"Multi-recorders can have different audio or video channels."

No, I'm not kidding.

But let me tell you why you can't have one recorder with video only and one with audio only for the same edit. Ok, let me think. . .well. . .uh . . . I give up, I can't think of a good reason. It just doesn't do that, OK?

However, if you want to do a little specfile work, there might be a way to fool the Axial. So even though the workspace may SAY the edit has video and audio ch. 1 and ch. 2, the specfile for the secondary recorder could be altered to only think the machine has, say, 2 channels of audio and no video. There are a couple of values in all specfiles that tell the Axial what channels of video and audio the machine is capable of handling.

If you want to get into this, let me know.

"You can rearrange the screen and keyboard layout."

Had you going there for a moment, didn't I?

Sorry, but you cannot rearrange the screen or keyboard easily enough to say that you can. What do I mean by that? Well, technically you can change the keyboard layout a bit, but you have to know the secret code for each key. And, you CANNOT edit the keyboard configuration file on the Axial, it is too big. If you try, and I know someone probably will, you will find that it will cut off a huge chunk of that file and then you won't have the use of a bunch of the keys. Say, that could be a problem, huh?

As far as the screen layout goes, well, there's not much you can do with that part either. However, I have been know to increase the size of the font in the Data Entry Register (you know, that place where the numbers appear as you type them) and the error message line (at the bottom of the screen) at some facilities I have been to. But that is kinda tough to do via the internet and is best done in person.

Ok, so I don't remember exactly what the keystrokes or parameters are, but you don't want to be messing with those files anyway, right?

I thought not.
