EDL Lies

"There is an easy way to re-sort the EDL by Rec-In times."

OK, not a biggie, but nonetheless. . .

Maybe it's just me. OK, it probably is just me. But, in teaching this stuff for a while, it hit me that one of the things that was left out was the easy, quick keystroke shortcut for sorting the EDL based on the Recorder's In-point. Yeah, I know you can go to the SORT User Menu and press REC-IN.

But, you see, all the other sort modes have a nice, handy quick shortcut to be able to instantly re-sort the EDL.

Oh. You didn't know about those? Well, that's an EDL Secret that you should know about, isn't it?

WAIT! This just in . . .

I have seen it for myself that in upcoming software (4.1, I believe) you will be able to press, I think it was, VIEW + MASTER while in the EDL and the EDL will be magically re-sorted based on the Rec In points.

Wow, some things you never thought you'd see change. . .

"You can import Sony EDLs right into the Axial."

But alas, no, you cannot.

It would be nice though, huh? All those places in the world who still struggle with a Sony edit system alongside the Axial would love it, I know. However, it is my understanding that the Sony EDL is it's own beast and better left to those 3rd party software-types who can do a better job.

Speaking of which, there is a conversion program available on the Accom FTP site to convert a Sony EDL into an Axial SMPTE EDL. Thanks to J.O'H.
