The Lance controller is losing IN's and OUT's on a ton of registers. Has anyone experienced this?

Hi John, Sorry you're having the problem with the TDC-100. If you are powering the unit down, and it's losing its register contents (or scrambling them) this might be caused by a dead battery in the frame part of the unit. There's a little coin cell in there which maintains the memory when power is removed. They normally last about 3 years, but if the problem is occuring when the TDC-100 is turned off, that is probably the culprit. This battery is a standard CR1632 coin cell, available at drugstores, Radio Shack, etc. If the problem is occuring without the unit being turned off, then I think Rich might be right on with his thoughts about the 'Learn' button. If this button is lit, it causes the TDC-100 to recognize 'Learn' pbus triggers, which the switcher will send out when you learn or modify an emem. In my experience, this is almost never desirable, and I would always have the 'Learn' button off on the TDC-100. I think almost everyone enters register information from the TDC-100 panel, rather than allowing the switcher to do it. See the manual for an explanation of exactly what happens when the TDC-100 sees a switcher 'Learn' trigger. I don't think there's any reason to worry about a UPS or other power issues, unless you're really having some major power disturbances. The TDC-100 power supply isolates the unit from power line fluctuations quite well. I think you'd be seeing bigger problems than this if the problem were of a primary power nature. If turning off Learn doesn't solve your problem, give me a call or email me directly to discuss. best, Bill Lance - 203-894-8206
My other thought is the learn button on the Lance. Can someone explain what that does? Could that be contributing to the problem? Thanks.
Hi John, Yes, the learn button *could* be the culprit. Is it on (enabled)? If I understand correctly.... When enabled, the Lance will learn (hence the name) its in-points based on emem activity. Example...reg 1, cue the Lance...play the clip part-way...stop the Lance.... relearn the emem reg (don't know if a KF mod will work as well)..... The new cue point on the Lance will now be *part-way* into the clip. (where you stopped it). This is how cue points are (actually, I believe *were*...software changes...haven't seen one in awhile) set using a DNF controller to a Profile. Again, if I recall correctly...it's been a long while... thanks to Bill Lance, who at least made my job easier. Hope this helps. Rich

Thanks Mike, A) No, and ver. 3 B) Fixed control room C) Cable seems okay D) Control pannel is locked down E) I don't know...will investigate putting the Lance on a UPS. Thanks, I would not have thought of that. The cue points are both shifting and disappearing and some are just fine. My other thought is the learn button on the Lance. Can someone explain what that does? Could that be contributing to the problem? Thanks.
Luckily I have not encountered this, however: A) has the software been recently upgraded? A1) what version software are you using? B) is the unit in a truck or a fixed control room? C) have you checked the cable between the frame and the panel? D) has the control panel been dropped recently? E) any major power hits recently? By losing In's and OUT's, are the cue points disappearing or shifting? Just a few questions a maintenance person would ask.
