Hi,

I've got a PC running Photoshop and SS Loader on my Kalypso LAN that I'll be using to handle some graphics in and out of the Kalypso.

I've got the SS Loader part worked out, but even though I'm a decent Photoshop hack, I'm having trouble with embedding / de-embedding alphas in Photoshop channels to turn them into/retrieve them from stills in the Kalypso world.

Any advice? Does it have anything to do with "Load Selection" / "Save Selection" in Photoshop?

Thanks,
Chad

Feature Request #463 - Recognition of 32 bit Graphics in the Still Store. GRRRR! To break out the alpha (matte) into a separate TIFF in Photoshop... follow all of the above steps. That first file can serve as your fill. (One note, you don't have to bother making the alpha visible in the Channel pallette since the Kalypso won't recognize it anyway. Then, save your Photoshop graphic with a new name (i.e. graphic_matte). Load Selection again, and using your Paint Bucket or Brush, fill the selected area in with white. Invert the selection, then use Bucket or Brush to fill that area with black. You should now have a lovely hole cutter for your logo. Save it as a TIFF, and send it to the SS with your fill. Good luck!

You will have to render out 2 files. The fill and the matte. When you upload (?) TO the switcher send the fill to the desired still number with the fill checkbox checked. Next send the matte to the SAME number with the matte checkbox checked. The switcher cannot process alpha channels inside tiffs into key channels - you have to give it the matte separately. Now when you call up the still number in 2 paired channels, the fill will be in the odd channel and the matte in the following even channel and it should key over background video.

Thank you both. I'll give it a try when I get a breather. Yesterday was my first day on the air with our new Kalypso, and I must say that I'm still in basic survival mode.

After you add the alpha channel, put in a black background so that it will end up as a premultiplied key. That gets rid of a few headaches in my experience.

Chad, You are on the right track with Load Selection / Save Selection. Assuming your Photoshop graphic is on a transparent background... hit Load Selection, which should cause your graphic to be outlined with a moving dotted line. Then hit Save Selection, which will add the alpha channel. Before you save off your TIFF, you need to go to the Channels window (which is on a tab behind your Layers window), and make your alpha channel visible. When you turn on the alpha channel, the transparent areas of your graphic will become pink. Now save your TIFF for export into the still store. I've never dealt with a graphic coming out of the SS into Photoshop, but you might want to again check your Channels window... it might be a matter of just turning it on. I hope this helps. Feel free to send other Photoshop questions. - Kim
