Just got word that I will be using a spot box instead of FF. Truck is NCP 5, Kalypso, Lance controller. I understand it is an EVS for the TD. Any tips for set-up and execution. This will be my first time with the spot box?

The spotbox is great... it allows you to have as many clips as you want and use them on the fly without having to worry about BVW mode and re-striping or anything like that. Best of all, when the producers come in with a last second add, like an animated promo, the tape room can load it and send it over the EVS network to you while you're doing other stuff. Small clips take very little time to transfer. It also allows you to title/retitle things very easily. Looping is easy with a pbus command or by a few keystrokes. Plus it gives you 4 channels to play with independently, all from the Lance. Cueing is almost instantaneous. A 5-minute tutorial from your EVS op will get you going... a few more minutes and some hands-on time will allow you to do a number of great things. You'll love it. The firewire option that Rick talked about is pretty easy to use as well.. you'll need an X-file for that, which is usally on any truck that has a native spotbox for the TD. It's basically a copy/paste type of operation. Once you have all of your elements you can bring them on a drive with you, load them up, add any new stuff, and always be ready to go. If you don't already have it, get the Lance cue list program from their website . Super flexible. Available in HD too!

Mark it's all clip based so you will need to have your taperoom load your elements then "send" them to your spotbox. Use the Clip list on the Lance to locate your elements and load them in then mark in and out like you usually do. You can also have your clips backed up on a firewire drive so your elements will load back in exactly as you left them. Good luck. Rick
