First of all hello everyone, my first post here since I changed jobs so first time here in the Snell forum. Our current setup here at the station is a Snell HD 1012 switcher combined. We are having intermittent problems where we will find single frames of black at a cut edit point. Prereads are fine, if we over record we are fine, but if we try to match frame in for a dissolve or a straight cut, we get a black frame. The decks are Sony HD M-2000 series.

I have tried to track it to the deck, the editor and the switcher but to no avail. Of course tonight when my edit got cancelled and I have 8 hours to work on this problem I cannot get a black frame edit to occur, which leads us to the fact that this is not consistant. Another strange issue is that if you watch the monitor during the edit it looks clean but if you watch the scope you see the scope drop to baseline and come up on the next source.

Does this sound familiar to anyone, any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jason Pinkowski

Jason- I hope that you have solved this problem, and it has not continued to plague you since the begining of the year. One other thougth. Make sure your edit controller is properly referenced. I had this problem on a remote once with a Sony 9100. The ref cable had been stepped on, and the connection was either lost or intermittent. As a result the editor was not able to figure out where to issue the command, and it was either on the correct frame or not, roll the dice. -Vance

Hello Jason, Every time I have seen this problem, it has been related to the editor sending the edit-in command 1-frame too late or the edit-out command 1-frame too early. With all VTRs these commands are sent by the editor to the R-VTR 4 to 8 frames ahead of time. What I do to verify this is: Record a clean section of black, maybe 1:00:00 worth. Mark an in and out within that section of 1:00. Start it at an even :00 and end it at an even :00 (or 24 or 25 depending on the standard). Cut to bars and record the edit. When you replay the edit, the last black before the edit in-point should be :29. The first frame of black coming out of the edit should be :00. If not, adjust the edit timing for the editor. A question... are you monitoring the out of the R-VTR E-E, using a preview switcher, or using the aux-bus? Regards, Bob

Thanks, Jason Pinkowski Milwaukee Public Television[/quote] Totally may be the wrong thing but on a 4K we had a problem once because our field dominance was set incorrectly to match up with the editors. There was a menu function to set field dominance on field 1 or 2. Bill
