Xten Freeze

So, I had an Xten freeze on me today during a break. At the beginning of the break I set up the switcher for the next block of the newscast. Near the end of the break I glanced down at the switcher and noticed that the panel said that I had "A" online and "B" in preset, while the Program monitor on the wall was in black and the Preview monitor had Cam1 with two DSKs set for the transition (just how I had set it up earlier). As I tried to preview and punch through multiple sources including the DSKs, the monitors on the wall didn't not change. We had Master roll another break, and I reloaded my config - everything came back okay. I'm GUESSING that it was a momentary loss of connection between the E-Box and the Panel.

In retrospect, I should have gone straight to the Rescan option under the Start Up menu, but not knowing what the problem was and never having an instance like this happen before I went with what came to me first.

Has anyone seen anything like this before? Any better remedies? Is this a precursor to something worse down the road?

Thanks,
Nathan

Dear Nathan, I would suggest that you up date the software. V 4.23 is quite an old version, the latest release for the XtenDD is V. 472 and can be downloaded at Best regards Dirk

Hey Christophe, Thanks for the reply and for the brainstorming help in trying to diagnose the problem. I don't think it was a FTB issue as I tried to punch through several sources during the time of the freeze. Even hot-punching on the PGM bus didn't have any effect. Just to be sure, I did check and we do have the "FTB Cancel" option enabled on PP. Thankfully the issue hasn't come up again. I did have another scare that same week...minutes before a show, the DIAG warning light showed up on the panel, but before I could get to the Diagnose menu, it had resolved itself. Since then, no problems....just having a bad week I guess. Thanks again for the thoughts. Doesn't hurt to check everything. -- Nathan

Hello Nathan, It's always a bit hard to analyse this kind of problem afterwards, but here are a couple of elements: - When the communication between panel and E-Box is lost, the panel goes entirely to black after some seconds. So, if the communication would have been lost, none of the buttons, displays... would have been lit. - You told that the PGM monitor was black, and the PVW one showed 2 keyers. It really looks like when the fade to Black was engaged. In such a case, the PGM output is Black, and the PVW shows what will come in PGM after the FTB is removed. Then a cut on the Pgm bus would have modified the state of the PVW output. To avoid this kind of problem, you can enable the "TFB cancel" function in the Config/Ebox/ME/PP menu. Then a simple cut on the Pgm bus will cancel the FTB. I hope that helps. Regards.
