Just ran across this photo:

and thought it was interesting - I admit I don't even know what GPI/GPO stand for, but could these switches on a PS3 be relatives of the GPI functions we've come to know and love? It made me curious. And made me want to find out what GPI and GPO stand for.

Hmm...I did a little more investigating online and discovered there's also something called Graphical Programming Interface, but somehow I don't think that's what this is. I also found this from a developers' forum (I'm guessing they're talking about the same thing, or something similar): If you look sharp, you'll see this kit has 8 switches labeled GPI (general purpose input) and 8 lamps labeled GPO (general purpose output). It provides a quick and easy way to change code paths or enable features in your program on the fly without having to break into the debugger, start over, or fiddle around with the controller. Not quite the same thing as General Purpose Interface, but they COULD be distant cousins...

My guess is they stand for Game Port In/Game Port Out...?
