I'm working with a GVG 4k and using a Fast Forward with Lance controller. I'm not familiar with GVG, only Sony. I'm having problems editing pre built keyframes. Can anyone give me a step by step? I have a show tomorrow and would like to have all the elements the Director wants. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!!

Greg, yep. Hopefully any double boxes come during halftime or other non action and I can use M/E 1.

Mike, If you need to layer ME/1, would you do all the other stuff (splits, boxes, etc.)on ME/2?

If I have to bail out to the Program bus, I have then drop the key and recall whatever DDR effect the director wants.

Greg, IF you need both channels of CG at the same time, other then specific usage, the director needs to be shot. The DVEous comes to you usually as a combined source, one keyer. What I do is on M/E 3 key 1- CG1, key 2- bug. (IF the bug is one of the brain dead ones that makes you use the DVE for clock then key 2 is M/E 1. DSKs Key1 is CG1 on KF 1, then it changes to either FF or DVE, controlled by timeline. Key 2 is tele with a source hold to save my backside. M/E 2 replays. I usually use key 1 for CG 1 and key 2 for branding or if not needed CG 2. M/E 1 IF needed for a clock, turn it to layered mode and put bug and DVE on whatever keyers you want. If I don't need to layer M/E 1, then I do splits and other stuff up there.

Just throwing this out there since we are talking about the 4 k here. How you you set up a Basketball show up on a 4k? Lets say you have 2 channel of Font, a two channel fast forward (replay), 2 channel DVEous, Fox Box and a tele? I may have some of these show coming up in the future and I don't have much experience on the 4K... How similiar is it to Kalypso? I know there are less keys available so that would be a huge difference.

"I go to modify the timeline, then I save the emem, only to run the effect but fast forward doesn't roll." Wait ... am I reading this correctly? When you say you "save the emem" ... you're not relearning the emem register attempting to save it in that register (ala SONY world) are you? If you are, you're blowing out your timeline. GVG Emems remember every modification you make as you go, no need to save to a register like SONY unless you're copying it ("Getting" and "Putting") into another register. Otherwise might be of use to you regarding the Fast Forward, GVG and PBus. Good luck. JH

First of all do this. Make sure that the B-bus enable button on the Lance is turned on. Watch the TDC 100 while you recall the timeline in question. If this light does not blink then you are not set up to control the Lance. Make sure that Periph Enable button is turned on on the 4K splash panel. If so check out the Config Menu. Go to the External I/F, Peripheral I/F Sub Menu and make sure that the Lance is set up as a P-bus device on one of the DPM levels.(Config menu, Ext IF, DPM set up) Make sure your Baud rate is set to 38400 and your parity rate matches the Lance.(Turn on the Menu button on the Lance. Use the Jog Controller to roll through the menu choices. Use the Set button to change choices) Next make sure that the P-bus triggers are defined for the correct device number. Make sure that the switcher and the lance are set to the same device number. All of these are menu settings that do not change with your timeline. Next go to the Emem menu, Periperal devices sub menu. make sure that the device that matches your Lance is set to On. Next back out to you Emem menu and select the Perph Triggers Sub menu. Trigger 0 will run the Lance. Make sure it is enabled for the same DPM level that you Lance is assigned to. These settings are all key-frameable. Call up your timeline and step through it one keyframe at a time and watch for changes in these menus. This will give you an idea of what you need to modify to get your lance running. I'm sure I have forgotten something. Writback if you need more info. Scott

P Bus commands are sent out by the 4K on what is called Header Information...it's like the pre-keyframe-1 on a SONY. If you need to change any PBus commands, they must be done in a different way than regular keyframes. With keyframes, you press either MOD - for modifying the current keyframe; or MOD, MOD to modify all keyframes. But with Header Information (PBus commands, Auto Recall assignments, EFF DIS modifiers), you use the command "LEARN, MOD", meaning that you 1st highlight the Learn/Lock button, and then press MOD. This sends out new header info to any connected external devices.

Pre-built meaning timelines that someone else had built and saved on disk along with the config. The problem I'm having is this.... I go to modify the timeline, then I save the emem, only to run the effect but fast forward doesn't roll. I'm not sure if I editing incorrectly, or if I don't have the learns on the TDC100. Do I need mess with Pbus? If so where and at what point in the edit?

What do you mean by "pre built" keyframes? Do you mean you're working off of the timelines someone else built? What exactly is the problem you're having?
