So I have noticed that the panel I work on (Kalypso) doesn't always update when I do a cut or dissolve, etc. Source changes fine, but panel does not update, same for a few other things. So I asked engineering about the network. Turns out, everything Tech is on the Lan. Two Kalypso's, 16 channels of profile, router, frame sync controllers, intercom, etc.

I have been able to live with it, but occasionally macros have not been firing. I think Bob mentioned macros come from the frame, so is that possible, that is a network issue as well?

The other stuff wasn't really on air stuff, but if macros are not firing, or firing, late or whatever, this is a problem that I will have to push more to get resolved, I assume the other Kalypso and the profiles are ok, but everything else should go, correct?
Does this all sound network related?

thanks
Bill
Having a 2nd Kalypso won't let you borrow TE's...you are limited to the resources that are in the specific frame that you're using. In fact, when I was doing testing, we had LOTS of Kalypso's (frames, panels, and PC Simulators) on our network. We rarely ran into problems except when we had a LAN "storm" that took down everything, or when one of the systems was talking to a device that was running AMP protocol & the device "went to sleep". The Kalypso may not be the culprit...it could be other things hanging on the network.
I kind of figured it is other stuff, when I mentioned this to one of the engineers they were like, ohhh yeah we have this and that, and ohh those things really would bog down the network, etc. It happened again to me today (macro not firing), so I am going to have to push them to get some of the other tech stuff off that LAN.. thanks Bill
From my experience, yes..it sounds network-related. The only thing thatshould be on the Kalypso network is the switcher and any external devices (such as Profiles) that are being directly controlled from the Kalypso. Anything else that's hangning on the network (including a second Kalypso) has the potential to slow down communications. While macros run from the frame, they are triggered from the panel, and if the panel is slow to update because of heavy LAN traffic, it's quite possible that the traffic is also affecting the macro triggering.
Bob, thanks.. One question about the 2nd Kalypso on the network. The 2nd one is not used often, and I think even though we don't use it that way now, they may want to keep all the profiles on the same network. Is there anything else that can be done to ease the traffic with the 2nd switcher. Is there even any advantages to having them on the same network, be great if I can somehow 'borrow' some of the TE's when not being used :). impossible but would be cool. thanks Bill
