I am just geting into the freelance TD business. I am looking for some info on the Dveous DVE. I have not used one yet & I need to find out some info on it. How do I enter sources into the different channels? Is there anywhere I can get a user manual online. Once I have set my DVE move how does it interface with the switcher?

Thank you very much Greg & Scott the info is very useful. I have been using the lance so I have an understanding of the p-bus & external devices, so hopefully I will catch on to it quickly

Hi Marc and Greg, The Dveous talks to switchers in a variety of ways. If you are working with Grass Valley switchers you have a couple of choices. P-bus talks to the DVE via specific P-bus commands. You can run the DVE, stop it, cause it to freeze an input, run it backwards and so forth depending on which command you issue. You can issue this commands in a timeline or an emem via the External devices menu. In CPL control the switcher "takes over" the timeline of the DVE. The timeline of the switcher needs to match the timeline of the DVE in length in order for the effect to be executed completely. In both instances the switcher and the DVE need to be speaking the same language. For instance, say you are working on a GVG 4000. In the Config menu, go to the Ext IF sub menu, then select the DPM IF sub menu. Set the DPM-1 control to P-bus. In the Periph IF sub menu set the baud rate to 38400 and the parity to match the Dveous. In the Dveous remote menu you will have a choice of two remotes to set up. If you don't know which one to set to P-bus, try them both turning them on or off alternately. If you want to use CPL control set both machines to talk CPL. Be sure to turn on the P-bus enable button on the switcher and you are just about ready to build and run effects. I would ecommend that you search previous posts on this forum. On the old site there were several discussions regarding both communication types. I would also recommend learning P-bus first, because if you use a Lance controller for any show you will be using P-bus. You will already know how to get it done. Happy punching, Scott

Marc, I am in the same boat as you. This is the ftp link for the manuals you may need. The manuals helped me quite a bit. while others here may be more experienced with the operation and internal routing I can offer you this. I will be keeping an eye on this topic. greg
