Kalypso Menu Panel Problem

Hello!

I don't post often on this forum, but I read it all the time. It is the best resource!

We are having an issue with our menu panel... the issue being, it stopped functioning!

A little background info: We load a good volume of stills on and off the switcher via flash drive. While most folks know not to just yank out the flash drive without stopping it, it still happens. That's usually when someone comes and gets me to sort out the now confused menu panel. I think that was the initial culprit today, but I'm not sure.

Someone came to get me because they couldn't see the flash drive. I looked through Explore... wasn't there. Tried to refresh... didn't work. So, as I usually do, I shut down the Kalypso software, then did a restart via the start menu. It seemed to do restart OK, but the Kalypso software failed about 75% of the way through its launch. I waited awhile, tried to launch it again... failed again. So I attempted another restart via the start menu... this time the screen went white... and has been stuck there ever since.

We have tried multiple combos of rebooting the frame, the panel, cutting power, etc. etc. The menu panel only just comes back all white. The only thing I can get it to do is when I hit the reset button, the keyboard lights flash once, as if the CPU is rebooting... but nothing ever happens.

Otherwise, the switcher is working just fine. Every function I tested via the panel or the AUX panel worked just fine... and they've switched 2 shows with the switcher in this state with no issues. (Except for the stills they will have to add in post!)

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

- Kim

In theory, no... the stills are built/stored on our well protected server and the thumb drives stay in house. We should be alerted to any viruses when the thumb drive is attached to the graphics computer. We hooked up a remote PC and the menu panel is heading out for evaluation/repair. Thanks everyone! - Kim

Again, as Bob said it is a PC... could someone have introduced a virus into the PC via their thumb drive? --- Dan

Because the menu is actually a PC running the Kalypso application, it sounds like maybe the processor died. I would suggest giving GV Customer Service a call. In the meantime, you can connect another PC to the ethernet system & run the Kalypso Menu-on-PC application, plugging in the correct IP addresses in the ENG/SYSTEM menu - it can act as your menu until the real one is fixed, and you will be able to access all of the menu functions (like stills) from this PC.
