The easiest way to have control over a DME-7000 from an 8k (except gpi)?
Anyone?

I have controlled two DME-7000s with P-bus control. I no longer use them, but if I remember correctly Sony had to modify them with a new chip to accept the p-bus protocol. If you use p-bus with the DMEs they have a fixed address assigned to them. DME 1 is device 0, and DME 2 is device 1.

I've got two 4-channel MVS-8000 outboard DME's connected to my switcher. From the DME end you change the settings in the DME Device Interface from DME to VTR (I assume that the older 7000 has similar settings) and from the switcher side you make them external devices, controlled under extended VTR protocol - that's to allow the DME's effect numbers to be imported into the switcher as Files. As Rick said, you can only issue VTR-style commands & by recalling files you can recall effect numbers, but it works great.

However, other than GPI, you could TRY to set the DME-7000's editor interface port to BVW (or maybe it's VTR). Then you might be able to use the MVS' Device control set to VTR also. In theory, you'd be able to at least issue VTR style commands to the DME-7000, but that's about it. Obviously, there will be no MVS control panel functions. RE
