I'm using the Sony 8000. Was wondering if there was anyway to build transitions (via effects, then loading them into shotboxs) that can cut program and preset either with or without at key? I've talked to some people and they seem to think the only way to get around this is with a GPI trigger (by making a cable that goes to a gpi in and gpi out). I've also tried disabling crosspoint holds on the keys but that doesn't seem to work either. Any advice? Thanks!

Steve

Thanks for the help! After doing a little more research and reading the posts I've decided that I'm going to have to do the old GPI loopback as well (I as well have to manage effects and macros at the same time). Again, thanks for you help guys! Steve

We went the GPI loopback route for two reasons. #1.We are using PBUS..so to since you have to burn an effect anyway to get PBUS to recall, we decided why have to manage macros and also effects. So we just built them as effects instead of a macro calling up an effect...etc. Thought it would be easier just to manage one effect ( I work in cable news...need I say more!!...lots of effects!) #2..Related to the above, we didn't want to burn a macro and an effect each time. Macros in timelines...would be real cool for this. I played around w/ this once..and I know others have as well on this list. Try playing around w/ turning the key off in the path menu as well as the trans module. I want to say you get to a point where the transition module doesn't recognize the next trans...but I want to say you get to a point where it won't do what you want anyway. Sorry, but I am not in front of the switcher now so I can't remember exactly what menu.... Timeline-Path-P/P ...then select Key 1..and turn it off in this menu..and Turn off the Trans as well in the same menu...or around the same area. Hope this helps. Curt

Maybe... 1. Perhaps build the effect using a macro instead of a timeline, OR run the timeline with a macro and have a macro hit your cut after a timed pause (exclude the m/e region from the effect). 2 Wait for the latest version 7.2x (WHERE IS IT!!!) that allows for macros on a timeline and use a macro to cut. 3. There's absolutely nothing wrong with the old fashioned gpi loopback. We did it on our old switcher and I bet there are a lot of 8k users out there still doing it. Did I mention I want version 7.2x?? And that I was waiting... patiently (teeth gnashed)...
