I've been working on a 8000 for the first time last week.
I was trying to put a drop shadow to a keyed DME, with no success.
The EIC said that in HD, there were no border nor drop shadow but in SD, yes. I had to burn a second DME to do it.
Are the border / drop shadow optionnal?

If I remember well, version was 7.22.

Hello Bob, I had a small box keyed over a background. I tried to put a shadow via menu pages 1142; I'm not sure but if I remember well, the only function that worked was "outline".
If you're looking at the 8000 DME's, then that's a different matter - on the 8000 I believe that you add drop shadows through a second channel of DME, and that's controlled in the Global Menu.
If I understand you well, as soon as I do a box with a DME, if I want a drop shadow, I need a second channel of DME ? I have not had any issues with putting switcher drop shadows on any keyer in HD - the borders work fine on the 8000. If you are keying something that's full-screen, then you won't see any borders...you need to have something that's not full-raster over the background video. If you're looking at the 8000 DME's, then that's a different matter - on the 8000 I believe that you add drop shadows through a second channel of DME, and that's controlled in the Global Menu.

JP ... Indeed, if you have 'flex shadow', you'll see it among the choices on the bottom gray buttons if you go to page 4121 (DME -> VIDEO MODIFY). You can also add a drop shadow and border if you're using resizers ... if you're working on ME-1, Key-1, you'll find those options at page 1115.4 (ME-1 -> Key-1 -> Processed Key -> Enhanced Effect). Resizers are very capable, but aren't able to manipulate rotation. Hope that helps... Matt

It is possible that they have the MVE-8000 (fewer options), and not the 'tricked-out' MVE-9000 (I know that art edge is one of those options, and flex shadow might be another). I usually add shadow to a DME using 'flex shadow' within the DME, haven't tried to do it with the key modifiers, though. I'll give it a shot tonight and see what I come-up with. Matt
