I recently had a Lance TD 100 and Fast Forward hooked up to my 8000G running software version 7.2. I'm interested in learning how to build P-Bus time lines. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Ray

[quote="mario3478"]Trying to hook up Pinnacle Thunder to Sony MVS 8000, is it the same basic setup? I should have some screenshot grabs of the Thunder PBUS menu when I used to use a thunder w/ PBUS. Curt

That would be great to have screen shots of thunder setup.  I had an engineer build the RS422 cables but can't seem to get any response form thunder when I hit test fire button. Should I have a still or animation in thunder cued?

There is some protocol setup in Thunder including setting the P-bus address, would make a different one for each channel. A small window runs at the bottom of Thunder program with the protocol running all the time.

I've used a Thunder with a Kahuna using VDCP with no problems. They were directly connected without a Lance or DNF. I have not used a Thunder with a Sony yet. Irv

First, use menu page 7325 & set up P-Bus to be controlled via timelines. In the DCU/Serial Port Assign menu (7355), set up the machines that will be controlled via the LANCE to be PBUS devices by assigning the appropriate serial ports & setting the desired PBus addresses. Make sure that you have the BUS level assigned to a level button (menu 7321.7) In the DEV menu (5321), go to the PBUS device number that you want to control (0-23). Assign an action (Store, Recall, or a Trigger [0=play if the LANCE is set to SONY...if it's set to GVG mode, then 1=play]) & INSERT this as a keyframe. Note that a trigger or a recall can be attached to ANY keyframe, so you can do a PBUS recall of a clip in the middle of your timeline. There is a sub-menu called REWIND ACTION. On a SONY, recalling an effect or hitting Rewind actually calls up Keyframe 0, not Keyframe 1 - KF 1 immediately happens as you RUN the effect. So if you wanted to recall a clip & play it, you'd put a playback trigger as KF 1, then set up the REWIND ACTION to recall the clip. In this way, you only need 1 KF to do a recall & play of a clip. If you want the current switcher effect to send out the traditional GV-style "LEARN" command, you can use the DIRECT STORE sub-menu...enter the LANCE effect register number here & the switcher will effectively attach that clip to the current effect. If you're using macros to do recalls and/or triggers, you can build menu macros that call up recalls & triggers & use the TEST FIRE button. Just remember that each step of a menu macro takes about 15 frames.

My engineer is having some problems with the connections between the switcher and the lance. What are the pin outs for the switcher side of the connection? I have the lance pin outs but am having trouble locating the Sony side.

Wiring is straight-thru, pin to pin... use pins 2, 3, (4), 7 and 8. Pins 2 and 7 are the TRANSMIT pair, and 3 and 8 are the RECEIVE pair. 4 is a common and is not neccessary for a short run.
