Hi,

I'm looking for information about TV truck companies in Australia.  I may be coming there with a live entertainment show next year, so I'm doing a little research.  Does anyone out there know of good truck companies there?  I'd be looking for trucks that do entertainment shows like award shows/variety shows, concerts, symphonies, etc. The truck would need to be fairly large.  In the US this show uses a 53' expandable unit.

Thanks for any references.

Mike, a member here " hosko" is an Aussie vison mixer. I would think he knows. You can send him a message through the forum software.

Another option would be to use NEP and have them source the truck. All Mobile might also have Aussie contacts.Of course, this would add to the cost.

Mike I'm now a director/vision switcher :)

The biggest truck's in Australia are 48' double expandos (without the prime mover), I believe thats the biggest that you can legally put onto the road here. Global TV will have 3 of them by the time your production is on http://www.globaltv.com.au/technology/hd.html HD1,2 and 4 are what you want.

Another option is Gearhouse HD1 and HD2 are the same size and both are double expando's

They all have Sony 8000G switchers and can handle up to 24 cameras.

If you need more then 24 cameras your only other option is Cutting Edge's HD1 which can handle 34 cameras but runs a Kalypso.  Coming from overseas this probably isn't a problem but here we hate this truck because if it. Its booked out doing X Factor until the end of the year so might not be any help to you.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help you out with. We only have 3 large scale OB truck providors. As such they all do everything.

Same pay, more duties??

If the user needs more than 24 cameras, why not tie two trucks together? As long as the router, tally system and intercom can handle the configuration. The Super Bowl and other "big" shows are not single unit shows.

That would work as well. I can't say I've worked on anything that large. I have seen two trucks tied together, we do it regurly when we have two matches from the same venue and they are being broadcast by different stations.

Slightly more pay, still a cable TV salary. I direct studio productions, Dir/Sw smaller productions and switch when needed. I still do the alpha builds on our studio switchers.
