ESPN billboards that are not pre-produced in the in their respective HQs come to the trucks with a fill, matte and a logo matte.  Can someone help me through the correct way to use all of those elements.  I've used work arounds thus far, but would ideally like to use them in the correct way.

Any help is appreciated.

HI Tyler,

The way I've done it is use the animation fill/matte on spotbox 1/2 and the logo matte on spotbox 4.  I cue and run them all simultaneously.  Spotbox 1/2 animate on, and if cued properly, spotbox 4 would reveal the logo at the time that the animation reveals the window.  Spotbox 4 is the split key matte of the repositioned (DVE'd) Font channel that the billboard is coming from which is keyed on top of spot 1/2.

The 1 issue with using this logo matte is that when there is a billboard logo that does not fill the whole window frame of the animation you get black in the surrounding area of the billboard window.  THere's no way I can think of to fix that.

There's another thing as well... included in the billboards elements area of the element reel is a flare effect off of the billboards.  If you're using 3 channels of spotbox you don't have another 2 channels available to use that element to wipe the whole thing off.

The black in the surrounding bb window was what I was wondering if I was the only person who was having that issue.  What I ended up doing today was putting my logo over white on another ME and splitting the key so that there was white behind the logo instead of black.  We then prepro the bbs just the fill and then then composite a matte so that all I'm using is 2 channels and that frees up the other 2 to use the flare.  I just wondered if I was doing something wrong.  Thanks for your insight!
